The Monadnock Angel Investors group at the Hannah Grimes Center for Entrepreneurship brings together investors and entrepreneurs to encourage local investment opportunities and economic growth in our region. With the economy continuing to improve, with entrepreneurs in need of investment to grow, and with investors looking for a better return on their dollar, the group is seeking new angels.
The Monadnock Angel Investors offers entrepreneurs the opportunity to pitch to several investors at once and it offers investors the benefit of the group’s wisdom as they consider investing in a project. If there is any investment interest by an individual or several individuals after the meeting, the parties proceed independently to due diligence and deal structuring. Investors should be capable of investing a minimum of $10,000. Decisions to invest are made on an individual basis; the group facilitates the connection between investors and entrepreneur and a group setting facilitates a more robust initial screening process.
Due to federal regulations, Angels must be accredited investors. An “accredited investor” as defined under Rule 501 of the SEC regulations, is: “Any natural person whose individual net worth or joint net worth with that person’s spouse at the time of his purchase exceeds $1,000,000”; OR “Any natural person who had an individual income in excess of $200,000 in each of the two most recent years or joint income with that person’s spouse in excess of $300,000 in each of those years and has a reasonable expectation of reaching the same income level in the current year.” Currently, there is legislation in Congress proposing to loosen those restrictions.
The Monadnock Angel Investors group will have its first meeting of the year on Wednesday, March 7 at 1:30 p.m. Pelletco (www.thepelletco.com), a green energy company and manufacturer of high-energy composite biomass fuel pellets, will be making a presentation at the meeting. Pelletco is seeking a new round of investment to expand current operations.
