The Cheshire County Conservation District is pleased to announce the No-Till Seeder is now available for rent in the region. This year, farmers in the region will have another management option for their fields. There will be a no-till drill available to rent for the first time in years through the Cheshire County No-Till Farming Initiative, and this means farms have the option of transitioning to no-till practices that decrease soil erosion and improve water quality.

Soil erosion is the number one cause of soil degradation in the United States. Although conservation practices have brought about improvement, the average soil erosion rate on cropland in the Northeast remains at 2.7 tons per acre per year according to the 2007 National Resources Inventory conducted by the US Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service. One way to dramatically reduce soil erosion is through no-till practices.

This equipment is made available through the Cheshire No-Till Farming Initiative and is supported by funds from the sale of the Conservation License Plate (Moose Plate) through the NH State Conservation Committee grant program.
