Navigating Your Tax Responsibilities as Small Business Owner
Jan 18, 2023 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm
Ashley Guion, local CPA, will lead a workshop on navigating bookkeeping as a small business owner and what your tax responsibilities are. Participate in a discussion of entity choice selection, the pros and cons of each, and the tax responsibilities for each entity. Learn everything from the beginning steps of starting your own company to closing your ‘books’ at the end of the year for tax prep. Learn what is required of you in terms of tax preparation, as well as how to lessen not only your tax liability but also your tax preparation bill. There will also be a segment devoted to bookkeeping and tips & tricks that you can do to keep your time focused on your income-producing activities rather than spending it doing irksome bookkeeping. Questions are always encouraged and can really promote good conversation and discussion so feel free to ask that question that you “always wondered…”The same amount of time with your CPA could cost you hundreds – Ashley is volunteering her time to HGC for a fraction of what a standard hourly rate would be. No question is too silly – ask away.

Ashley is a local CPA and QuickBooks ProAdvisor. A Monadnock graduate turned UNH graduate, she completed her Masters in Accounting and immediately joined the public accounting workforce, advising clients on everything from personal to business taxes. Part of her job at tax time is looking at a client’s financial ‘books’ and making sure everything is entered correctly (usually it’s not), so she makes a living on cleaning up messy financial statements and preparing the associated tax returns. Her professional affiliations include the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the New Hampshire Society of Certified Public Accountants (NHSCPA). She was also won Silver for Best Local Accountant in the 2020 Choice Awards through the Keene Sentinel. Guion is a graduate of the 2018 Leadership Monadnock program and was a board member and Treasurer of Keene Young Professionals Network, a program of the Hannah Grimes Center for several years. Now she serves on the Board of Rise for Baby and Family and works on their finance committee to share her expertise with nonprofits and accounting. In her free time, what little of it there is with two young children, she writes children’s picture books and is an infertility advocate for those that are struggling to conceive.
